Easter Fun

My kids throughly enjoyed Easter this year. Roman went NUTS for the easter egg hunt and Marisa liked playing with the empty eggs. ( I love that she doesn't know about candy yet)

The kids got a bowling set from the easter bunny and this fun filled the rest of our evening.

overall it was a pretty good day. HAPPY EASTER!

Funeral Potatoes

I thought a potato recipe would be a good thing to post just before Easter. We might be having this on Sunday. Especially if we are having ham... I still haven't decided. These are delicious!!!! Not all that good for you but SOOOOO yummy. I just shared it with Greta, so I thought I would share with all of you loyal blog readers :)

Funeral Potatoes

Ingredients:
32 oz. frozen southern style hash brown potatoes (they are the little cubed kind)
1 can (10 3/4 oz) cond. cream of chicken soup
1/2 Soup can Milk (more if you want them extra creamy)
1 cup sour cream
1 cup SHARP cheddar cheese ( I think sharp is best because mild or med. you can't taste very well)
1/4 cup grated onion (optional) I cant get the grater to do it very well so I use our little food processor it just needs to be small so you don't get a big bite of onion.
3-4 slices of bacon cooked and crumbled
salt and pepper to taste (this is kinda funny because you cant "taste" it until it's too late, but... you can always add it to each serving after it's cooked so don't over do it)

3 Tablespoons butter, melted
1 cup corn flake crumbs (this is 1 cup after they are crushed not before :))

-Thaw potatoes in a 2-3 quart casserole dish or a 9 X 13 cake pan

-Saute onion in a little bit of butter or bacon fat until transparent

-Combine soup, milk, sour cream, cheese, onion, bacon, salt and pepper. Mix well, Spread sauce over potatoes.

- Melt butter and combine with cornflake crumbs. Sprinkle over casserole. Bake uncovered at 350 F for 30-40 minutes or until hot and bubbly throughout.

My favorite part is the crumbs on top so I'm always really generous with them. I also like the cheese.

My K9 Whine.

If you love dogs, I suggest you not read this post because it's all about why I don't like dogs. You might think I'm awful. :) However, I've included some pretty cute pictures of these little varmints.

I was taking my kids for a walk to the Library the other day and at least 5 times I was very rudely barked at by some obnoxious, ugly beast of a dog as we quietly strolled past their houses. Every time Marisa cried from the scare and by the time we made it home I wanted to shoot them all.

I guess my dislike for dogs is actually partially a dislike for poor dog owners. Granted, when we had dogs when I was growing up, we weren't the best. Cruiser barked at obnoxious times, but we kept him in the back yard where he would stay away from unsuspecting passers by.

Here is my list of why I don't like them:

1. They stink! All but the smallest dogs will make your back yard smell SO bad. A house in our neighborhood had ONE dog for a year and their back yard still smells bad enough that you want to hold your breath as you walk past. Your yard becomes a war zone of dog bombs. Their fur is smelly too..... wet dog..... barf!

2. They are loud. Even the smallest dogs just don't stop barking!!! There are at least 10 dogs out of 16 houses in our neighborhood. There is very few times in the day that there isn't a dog barking endlessly for no reason at all. Every time I go outside when the neighbors tiny little wiener dog is out, I get barked at like I'm harassing the thing. I'M JUST THROWING OUT THE GARBAGE! the little pest.

3. All you want to do is go visiting someone and you get barked at like your robbing the place. Then you get sniffed like your being searched for drugs and then you won't be left alone. And you feel like you can't let your kids down because heaven knows what is on the floor.

4. Have any of you seen what a dog will do if it doesn't get enough attention? Just watch Americas Funniest Videos. They will seriously destroy your house.

5. Too much like having a child without the rewards (in my opinion anyway). Clean up after, teach, train, punish, praise.... and what do they do in return... Run away at the first chance, destroy your house and yard. Obviously make it impossible to go ANYWHERE without them (because they are in just about every other car at walmart), yet there are very few places they are appreciated. And once they finally get to the point where they are well trained and loyal, they go and die.

6. Have you all seen the bit on Seinfeld? here is the quote: I agree 100%!

"On my block, a lot of people walk their dogs, and I always see them walking along with their little poop bags, which to me is just the lowest function of human life. If aliens are watching this through telescopes, they're gonna think the dogs are the leaders. If you see two life forms, one of them's making a poop, the other one's carrying it for him, who would you assume was in charge?"

EXACTLY... who wants to do this???? Obviously it's worth it to many people, or you are one of these "Bad dog owners" that I referred to earlier and you leave it my yard, or the park for me to step on unsuspectingly or even worse... Right in the middle of the sidewalk where Roman rolls over it with his bike and then our garage stinks for days.

I'm sure there is more.... but these are my top 6 reasons why I don't like dogs. Now in attempt to maintain the friendship of those of you who do like dogs. I will tell you that I will not hate a good dog.

If the dog doesn't sniff, bark at, jump on, or attack me for no reason whatsoever. If they are well behaved and well trained. If they are well kept ie. groomed and cleaned up after. Then... and only then will I admit that I like a dog. But for the most part... I am a Cat person. :)

Wii are so lucky!!!!

So...my father in law offered to buy us a wii after seeing Greta's children play it and having so much fun. Only catch.... I have to find one (at regular price) first. As many of you know, this is not the easiest task. Once stores get them, they are typically gone within minutes. I also knew that many stores sold them on Sunday mornings. I'm sorry, but I wasn't going to go to hell over a game.

I asked a few store clerks what I had to do and most of them said, just keep calling and trying. Well, I HATE talking on the phone and REALLY hate bugging people. I can only imagine what the people at these stores are thinking when the 50th person calls that day asking about the wii. So I decided I would put a little effort into finding one, but I wasn't going to spend hours driving, calling and waiting in corners of stores for the CHANCE to get a game. We already have a cube, and an x-box. But I do like that the wii gets you up off your butt or at least you have to move your arm a little, so I was willing to give it a little effort. After all.... it was free. In fact, I (trying to be frugal and not spend my money on games actually passed up the opportunity to buy one only two weeks before Shane's dad offered to buy it for us).

So anyway, after visiting a few stores a few (what I thought was well calculated) times and calling small gaming stores randomly, I figured we were just going to have to wait for the demand to go down or the supply to go up. But on a whim, I called Game stop yesterday asking if they knew when they would receive a shipment. He said... I don't know for sure, but maybe tomorrow???

Well Tomorrow, now today, came and we were sitting around with nothing to do. I had just finished posting on Laura's blog where she had mentioned that they had a wii and how I was trying to find one but probably never would. Just after, I packed up the kids and drove to the store getting there about 8 minutes before they opened. There were cars EVERYWHERE!!! I figured I was too late and the 3-4 systems they did have would be gone. Nope. I was customer #3 and they had 6! Just as I was scrambling to get my phone to call Shane's sister and tell her to high tail it down there, she came waltzing in the door. :) So we both got our wii's and the search is over. Glad to say it wasn't so hard. But, I think there was a minor amount of luck involved.

Already, Roman is a bowling pro (he's gotten many strikes where I have yet to get one) and I guess we can get a little exercise in the winter. Heck, I'm just proud that I set it up right. And we can be one of the few proud wii's owners (for a little while anyway). Although I don't think the shortage will last much longer. I can't believe that Nintendo is letting so many people make money off their product. Just search ebay and people are making $50-$100 just for doing what I did, only they are probably really good at it and find several a week.

Anyway, Thanks Bill for adding a little adventure to my life, and a little new and exciting fun into Roman's.

Roman's first Dentist trip

February was national dental health month or something like that. So at pre-school they talked about teeth and went on a field trip to a pediatric dentist. So I figured it was a perfect time to have Roman visit the dentist for the very first time.
He had gone along with Shane and I and just watched but was a little apprehensive about the whole thing. When I announced that we would be going and he would have to let them clean his teeth and look at them he whined and said he just wanted to watch. But I convinced him that it wouldn't be bad and in the end would be worth it.
He was worried about getting a shot (because of a book we had read) But I told him he wouldn't need one and it would be easy.
He did GREAT!!! He sat in the chair just tapping away at the arm rests and when it came time to show the dentist his pearly whites, He opened up. He even let the hygenist clean his teeth with the "scratchy toothpaste". During his cleaning he got to wear some cool sunglasses to keep the light out of his eyes and when he was all done, he got a toy camera from the toy box, a toothbrush with bugs on it and some toothpaste. He was thrilled. and even better, his teeth looked great. Along with the rest of us. No cavities!!! woo hoo!! It almost makes you not hate going to the dentist..... Almost. :)
Now for some pictures:

And so as not to leave out the princess. I told you before that my kids love their baths, but just in case you don't believe me.. Here is a picture of Marisa trying to get in the tub herself because I wasn't helping her fast enough. Once she was in, she was happy as a clam. Yesterday when I was getting her ready for bed (on a non bath night) , I took off her clothes and she hightailed it to the bathroom as fast as she could go. When I told her that there was no bath, she threw herself on the ground and started bawling. Silly girl.
