Dance has been interesting this fall. Marisa's dance studio underwent some big changes over the summer and is now a lot bigger with lots more classes and teachers etc. There have been some growing pains and Marisa didn't avoid them completely.
Her Ballet Class was HUGE! 18 kids! About 10 of the girls were in company teams so they were already in class an hour before ballet started. So Marisa would get there and feel like an outsider because she wasn't in the previous class. Then imagine 18 5-6 year olds who are now tired and hungry trying to settle down for ballet. It was kind of a disaster. Marisa didn't like it much and made me stay with her.
Luckily the teacher recognized that there was a problem and they split the class after about 5 weeks. She liked it so much better to be in a group that was not part of the company dancers.
The problem there, was that they were about 3 weeks behind on learning their recital dance and a few of the kids who were split off decided to join the company and Marisa's class ended up being tiny.
Marisa also decided she wanted to try Jazz. The problem with that was that it is on Wednesday afternoons and ALL of her soccer games were on Wednesday afternoons. So I made her wait until soccer was over to join the class. But then she was behind on learning that dance as well.
In the end, it all worked out. I like that her ballet class is small and so does she. They focus a lot on doing the moves correctly now that she is older. She really likes Jazz but it is definitely more difficult for her as she is on the younger side of the age range for the class and she has never really done jazz before.
The ballet dance ended up being quite easy and the Jazz dance quite hard but she still did well and it was fun to watch her.
I didn't end up getting any pictures of her Jazz outfit but oh well. Her costumes will be the same for the spring recital.
Here's a video of both dances if you feel like watching.

Nutcracker
Marisa and I decided to go to The Nutcracker earlier this month. I would have loved to go to Salt Lake for a Ballet West performance but the price is just crazy!
So, we decided to go to a performance in Provo. It was half price and closer.
Marisa was really excited in October when we bought the tickets but by the time we got there, she had blown through all her excitement and wasn't nearly as excited as I hoped she would be.
We went to lunch at Arby's before hand (her pick) then to the Covey Center for the ballet.
She liked it and I LOVED it. I love the music and watching ballet. It was a little bit longer than her attention span would allow but we both agreed we would do it again...someday.
I'm glad we went. It was a fun little date with my Girly.

Adventures in a broken foot
Well, I guess it was too much to ask for when I hoped for an uneventful surgery experience. It hasn't been so bad really but we did get a few curve balls that we weren't expecting.
I woke up from surgery while they were doing x-rays of my new foot. I think I mumbled "looks good" to my doctor and swiftly passed out again.
In recovery I was anxious to get home so even though I just wanted to sleep, I toughed it out and did my best to get out of there. I had some applesauce and juice and a little Sprite and we were soon out the door.
They gave me this lovely boot and had me walk myself out the door. My foot was still numb so that was no trouble.
The doctor gave me a prescription for pain and one for nausea. We stopped at Walmart to get the pain pills and I thought maybe I would need the others but thought maybe I just needed to lie down.
I got home and made it to the bathroom just in time to puke my guts out. It could be years before I eat applesauce again.
I figured since I was already down there I might as well clean the toilet. So I did.
I rested, ate, and threw up some more. I sent Shane back to Walmart for the anti nausea pills. Of all the things I prepared for, throwing up was not one of them. Ezra thought it was great fun to see mommy puking. Rushing to the toilet with my foot was not fun.
The pills worked wonderfully. During the night however, Roman came to my room at 2:30 am to tell me he was going to throw up. Seriously?!? I couldn't get up to help so I sent Shane off. I guess he threw up, slept a few hours in the hallway and then felt fine and went back to bed.
The next day I was so high on medicine that I was in and out of sleep most of the day. I can't even remember much of anything.
Today was much better. Shane went to work and Ezra and I just hung out together. He played way too many video games and watched too much T.V., we played a bunch of Chutes and Ladders. I sent out a plea on Facebook for some crutches. Luckily Shane's sister had some to our house by 10 am and I can actually get around our house without feeling like I might die.
Ezra's little friend came over this afternoon and while I didn't like that I couldn't really supervise, I felt bad that he had been at home with boring me all day so I let them play. Only problem, his friend had a little "accident" while he was here so I ended up having to clean the bathroom from top to bottom and wash the towels and bath mats. Seriously?!?
My foot is already feeling tons better. I'm glad I have the crutches so I can take a more gradual approach to walking again.
Hopefully there are no more barfies or poopies to clean up and we can get back to normal around here.
I guess things would be pretty boring if there weren't a few surprises. Sometimes boring is a good thing though.

The Latest (I need bunion surgery)
Sorry to be ignoring my blog so much. So much is going on although not a whole lot of it is blog worthy or super interesting.
Marisa is busy with two dance classes that she loves. Roman is busy with basketball practices and scouts and Ezra is busy being left out of all of it (not that he really cares much).
Shane has been busy working. He got the chance to test out a telework program for his job for a few weeks. He liked being able to stay in his pj's while he works and was honored to be one of only a handful of people in the country to be chosen.
I've been busy sewing and getting ready for Christmas.
I also decided that now was the time to have foot surgery because it sounded like so much fun.
I've had bunions on my feet for almost as long as I've been paying attention. I knew that one day I would probably have to have them fixed and now seems like a good time.
My right foot has been getting worse and worse until my foot hurts almost all the time and all my tricks are no longer working to alleviate the pain. It's not so bad that I can't live with it, but I don't want to wait for that point. Or, wait until getting around with a what is essentially a broken foot bone is more difficult than it has to be. If I wait for them to get worse the surgery gets more extensive and instead of staying off my foot for a week it's 6 weeks. I'll take one week, thank you!
This could be interesting. I've heard horror stories and good stories. I'm hoping for simply an uneventful story. I've never had surgery before. A little over a week. Eeek!
The upside is that we are nearly ready for Christmas. A record for us to be sure. I'm always wrapping presents late into the night on Christmas eve and braving the December 23rd crowds to get the last few things. This week will definitely be busy tying up loose ends, sewing one last project and trying to clean the house really well but, all gifts are purchased and I'm making carmel popcorn for the neighbors/teachers/friends as I type this.
I can't believe it's already the second week of December. Time flies! We must be having fun. :)
