March Camping Trip

In March we usually have an end of term break from school that I just love because it's not long, but it's typically warm and it always seems like a great time to go enjoy the outdoors after a long winter.

Two years ago we went to Goblin Valley which was great.

This year I decided I wanted to take the kids down by Moab for the weekend.

The weather was FANTASTIC! (we weren't even too cold at night).

I was at Walmart a week before buying hand warmers just in case and I ran into a neighbor/friend and she asked if I was going camping. I said, "yes, you want to come?" and she (and her kids) did!

I was so glad. Besides having a friend there to talk with, the kids each had a friend their age to hang with. They loved it.

Thursday night we made it down with enough time to set up camp and play some games.

Friday we spent the day at Canyonlands. I've been down to Moab a handful of times and never gone to Canyonlands so this was the perfect excuse. To make it even better. 4th Graders get a free annual pass to national parks, so we all got in free!!!!

Much to my kids dismay.... hiking is just about all there is to do in Canyonlands. But they were so distracted by friends they didn't even realize that we had hiked over 7 miles!

We went to Whale Rock, Upheaval Dome, Grand Lookout Point and Mesa Arch. Every view was amazing and beautiful and a little nerve racking for us poor moms. But the kids were pretty responsible and careful next to the big rocky cliffs.

The views were absolutely stunning.

After some dinner, and a little rest for our poor feet, we drove out to dead horse point. It's a beautiful bend in the Colorado river. We went at sunset and it was awesome!

Friday night everyone turned in much earlier and easier.
My poor friend had a bit of a night though with a sick kid. :(
All was well by morning though so we cleaned up camp after breakfast and headed to Arches for a half day.

We decided to get the difficult hike done with early and headed to delicate arch. I love this hike!

These boys liked finding places to hide under boulders etc.

We made a quick stop at double arch

These boys climbed up to the top. What you can't see is the terrifying cliff just behind them. ACK!

We had a great time! The kids loved having friends along, Me too really. The weather was perfect! We couldn't not have been more lucky to have such a great weekend.
