Spring Break 2023

We went on a cruise for spring break this year.

We cruised from LA to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán and Cabo San Lucas.  Shane and I had been to Puerto and Cabo before but Mazatlán was a first for all of us.

It was kind of strange to be on vacation without Roman but I won't lie, It was nice to have one less being to be worried about. Sigh, I'm the worst! Sorry Roman.

We flew in the night before, It was nice to sleep in and be within a short bus ride of the port. It's always just stressful trying to get to the ship on time and in once piece.

We had to wait a long time to get onto the ship. I think this one was a record for how long we waited. I'm glad that they had mostly enough places for everyone to sit while we waited

We snuck a picture to the side of the sign. They are photo Nazis don't you dare try to take a picture with their props

But we were finally able to board and it was a party from then on. The weather was nice, the sun was out and we headed straight to food and things that quickly get crowded.

The ropes course, sky ride, mini golf and pool tables were the first to get checked off the list.

Our first two days were at sea. I don't know what it is about sea days, I don't take many pictures.

That's probably because I'm sitting in the sun somewhere...When I'm not doing that, I'm eating.

Ezra hit the waterslides and Marisa went to the towel folding class.

Ezra tried escargot again.

Our first port was Puerto Vallarta. Shane and I visited this port in the fall. It was good to know our way around a little. We stopped to shop for junk.

took some token pictures with the ship

Then we headed to the Malecon to see some interesting things;   Some public rocking horses

The sign

There's always the 4 men flying around a pole and playing a flute.

And other fun landmarks.

Then we headed back toward the boat and walked to the beach that is near the dock.

I'm telling you, the warmth and sunshine that Mexico provided was not just nice... it was necessary. The winter back home just would not end! It was brutal.

Our next stop was Mazatlán. This was a first for all of us. I kind of liked it.   We walked through some sketchy parts of town to these stairs that take you to a lookout spot that has a sign.

It was a lot of stairs but the view was amazing!

From there we walked to a little ferry that took us to stone island beach.

It was busy and with a lot of locals but the sand was shimmery with gold colored flecks and the water was shallow and a little cold but we had fun playing in the sand and torturing all the little clams that we would dig out of the ground.

We went back to the ship after a few hours and got lunch and still had some time to play so we got back off and went for walk to see the local cathedral.  We got there too late to go inside, but that didn't stop Ezra from ringing the church bell.  I guess they don't mind a lot because the rope was just right there waiting to be pulled.

We thought about walking on to the malecon but that was playing with fire so we headed back to the ship. Mazatlán is the only place I've been where they have these crazy open top cars with canopies. They seemed cool, but we didn't use one.

That night the moon was way cool. Of course the camera can never quite capture it.

Our last stop was Cabo San Lucas. I really like Cabo. It's always warm, the scenery is great and the water is nice.

We weren't in port for very long so we went to the beach that is right near the docks. It's a little bit of a locals beach too but it's never disappointed us. Ezra and I snorkeled a little but the water was just cold enough that I didn't last very long.

We still had a little bit of time after we were done playing at the beach so we went junk shopping and I started asking the millions of salesmen offering rides  on their boats how much to take us out to the arch.  I found someone who would do it for $10 a piece so we went for a little ride.

It was fun to get up close to the arch and lovers beach and the cool "window" to see the pacific.

Our stop in cabo was really short. We had to be back on board by 3:00 or something like that. So we got back on board only to start up the engines, turn the boat around and wait. I really don't know what we were waiting for, but in my head it was someone who forgot to check their clocks and didn't catch the last boat and they took pity on the poor soul.   I really don't know what we waited for, but we could have been on shore playing for another hour. Sign... oh well.

The last day was at sea and it was another day of eating, soaking up the sun and enjoying the warm weather.

It was such a good time. And just what the doctor ordered. The winter was brutal. Have I mentioned that yet? Brutal!
