We didn't have any big plans for fall break this year. I was ok with that. Sometimes it's nice to just stay close to home.
We did cross of a bucket list item and headed south to Monument Valley. It kills us that we were really quite close to this when we drove to four corners area then on to the Grand Canyon but we just didn't know how close we really were and I'm pretty sure cell service was terrible at that time so I couldn't just look it up.
We took off on Wednesday after school and drove for a few hours to Green River.
Thursday morning we woke up and drove to Monument valley, stopping only for a minute at the hole in the rock. We also stopped at the Monticello Temple for a quick picture.
We stopped at Forest Gump point. It really is such a cool view, but teaming with people. Not nearly as desolate as the movie makes it out to be. Maybe it was back then.
Monument valley full of cool views and huge rock formations.
From there we spend the night in Blanding which is serious small town.
We walked down to Dairy Queen which is also a bowling alley and a gas station... mostly for something to do, but don't worry, the ice cream went down pretty easy.
Friday we went home the long way driving through Glen Canyon which is never dull and stopping to play at another favorite... Goblin Valley.
We didn't run into people much at all until we got there. We had to wait about an hour to get into the park because the lot was full. I can imagine that before the internet this place was such a fun little hidden gem but now there are no sacred places. Oh well, we still had a great time
From there we went home to enjoy the rest of fall break by sleeping in, lounging around and being extra lazy. It was the best of both worlds.
