Shane went to Ohio for a week, so I took the kids to Capitol Reef for the weekend.
None of us had made it there before. (at least that I can remember)
Of course I picked the wettest weekend EVER. But we still had a great time. We just spend a little more time at the hotel than I had planned. At least there was a fun pool.
Here are some pictures of our Saturday in the park.
We managed to spend the morning pretty dry, so we went to the slot canyons.

Ezra, who hates hiking, was pretty frustrated with his mom. But he did like the rock clambering bits. But he also hated them. That kid!

I thought it was kind of fun to drive through the slot canyons.
We stopped at Fruita Campground to pick some apples. We also bought the BEST strawberry rhubarb pie.
From there we hiked some higher ground and saw Hickman Bridge.
It was starting to get pretty wet so we headed out stopping at the goose necks on the way.
I wasn't ready to spend the rest of the day watching T.V. so I made an executive decision and we drove to see fish lake.
It was freezing and there was a little snow in the air, but the colors were stunning and we happened upon a bunch of salmon that were spawning.
The next day we took the extra long way home and stopped by a favorite of ours... Goblin Valley.
At first, it was just a little drippy. Nothing terrible. But then there was more rain, and more rain and all that red dirt turned to sticky, slippery, unruly mud.
We could barely walk! Soon, little streams were turning into muddy rivers and there was no sign of it letting up so we called it quits and made our way back to the car.
It was a fun weekend. I'm glad we went even if the weather had different plans.
