Here is the link to my sewing blog about Ezra's playhouse. Come take a look:

Christmas Past is Past
Wow, what a fun Christmas we have had! So much to talk about. None of it is all that super intersting really. It's not like we went to Disneyland for Christmas or anything. In fact, I think we left the house as little as possible. Mostly just to get more movies to watch or more food to eat. But we've had fun.
As you know, Ezra decided he had had enough of the crawling business and that his two feet work just fine. Of course he is no pro, but is doing great. If it weren't for those darn socks on the wood floor. They get him every time.
On Christmas eve we stuck with our tradition of making gingerbread houses but I was in no mood for actually making gingerbread, so we used graham crackers. I don't know if I will ever be able to convince myself to do otherwise. TOO EASY! OK so they aren't nearly as pretty and they don't smell as wonderful. So I probably will make them again when I've got more energy. I'm starting to wonder if I'm waiting for something that may never come there.
Another new disovery on my part (I know, I must live under a rock) was royal icing made from egg whites. OH MY! The stuff was like crazy glue. Not one house had to be reconstructed. It stiffened up super fast which is great for little ones with short attention spans. I will share the recipe at the end of this post just in case you live under a rock too. I don't believe it's all that edible though with the raw eggs in it. ???? Not sure it matters. Just don't go frosting your cookies with it.
The kids were proud of their houses and Ezra enjoyed eating the broken crackers while we worked.
Christmas morning was fun. Marisa is old enough to understand and enjoy. Last year she cried. Who cries on Christmas? Well, Marisa does I guess. Ezra was old enough to have fun while still being clueless to the fact that he had a small fraction of the gifts as everyone else. For someone who had ripped his fair share of book pages etc. he was not interested in ripping the wrapping paper at all. Oh well, he loved his gifts. One of which was this play house. I'm going to do a whole post about it on my sewing blog soon. Keep an eye out. Marisa and Ezra both really enjoy it. The funniest thing is that Ezra will occasionally sneek in there and be ultra quiet, just hiding out waiting for someone to come looking for him. He also goes in and out over and over again and giggles and yells as he's doing it. He likes his playhouse much more than I expected him to. Which is good. I spend A LOT of hours on it. I got the idea from my friend Kristy's blog who got the idea from some other crafty blogs. Anyway... more about that later.
Roman got a shirt that he has worn every day since. He's worried about the day when I'm going to make him wear something else. He also got New Super Mario Brothers Wii. And LOVES playing it. It's kind of fun because you can play up to 4 players at a time and there are new fun places to explore. Ever since the game cube I've said they needed to make this and wondered why they hadn't, and now they have! I can die peacefully.
Marisa asked for "pink" and boy did she get it. She had a huge pile of pink things. Most of it was essentials that she needed anyway; coat, stepping stool, jacket, bow holder, books, etc. I even snuck some undies in there. She's not impressed. She did get a stroller/carseat/pack-n-play/swing for her dolly which she enjoys though. She likes giving her doll walks around the house.
Shane got a whole bunch of candy bars in his sock. He made the mistake of sharing one with Ezra and he spent the rest of the morning begging him to open another one. He also got a bunch of boring essentials. What can I say, you don't make a list for Santa so he doesn't know what to bring you.
I got cookbooks and a new lens for my camera. One of the cookbooks was the America's test Kitchen cookbook. I love that show! I'm excited to try some new recipes. I'm still pondering but may do my own scaled back version of Julie and Julia with all my new recipes. I'm in such a food funk lately. Actually It's really been since about the time I was pregnant with Marisa that I get hungry, but nothing really sounds all that good. It's awful. My mom used to feed our dog a big meaty bone when he would lose his appetite. I think I need to start mixing things up more and maybe I will start to love food again. Kind of like the dog and the bone thing, only I don't think I will go gnawing on any bones. Don't get me wrong though. I still eat like a horse and still get very hungry. More on that later too. Here is me in all my Christmas morning sweats and pink fuzzy slipper glory.
Since then we have spend our days in sweats, playing the wii and eating. Life is good. Hope everyone's Christmas was a lovely as ours.

Royal Icing (great for gingerbread houses)
1 lb. powdered sugar
1 tsp. cream of tartar
3 egg whites
1 tsp. cream of tartar
3 egg whites
Beat all ingredients until very stiff. Place in pastry bag fitted with desired tip and used to glue together and decorate gingerbread houses. Icing will harden as it sits, so add a few drops of water as needed.
I took a wet paper towel and placed it over the bowl of unused icing then covered that with plastic wrap. It kept the icing from stiffening until I needed it.

I Walk the Line
It's a Christmas Miracle!!!!
A week ago I thought Ezra would never walk. Hmmm.... Why did I think that? Well, because I couldn't force the kid to walk if my life depended on it. He would scream and throw a fit if you tried to help him walk by holding his hands. And, he would hold his legs way up by his ears to avoid it. I couldn't even coax him with desirable objects.
Then...a few days ago he wasn't paying attention and he was standing all by himself. Then, a day or so after that, he got himself to standing without holding on to anything. Then, yesterday he took a few very careful steps. Today, he started doing this. And he just kept doing it for about a half an hour. By bedtime he was walking the length of the room and turning himself around. CRAZY!
(Please ignore the two other monkeys in the clip. One of them can't stand to have a camera pointed at anything else by him, the other is a lemming, what can I say?)
It's a Christmas Miracle I tell ya! Ok, so it's just really neat, but still. :)

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
These pictures were buried in with all my skirt pictures and other random pictures and I totally forgot about them.
I love the first snow of winter. Although this wasn't technically the first snow, it was the first snow we could do anything with.
Marisa surprised me with her lack of fear. She went walking through it, eating it, and shoveling the snow like she had done it a million times. This, the girl who has been know to be afraid of bread crumbs.
She didn't want to come in.
Roman and Marisa stayed out until the entire driveway and sidewalk were shoveled. And for those of you who have never seen our driveway, it's ridiculously long. It takes about an hour or more to shovel. Ezra and I stayed inside where it's warm and dry, only venturing out to take a few pictures before rushing back inside to thaw out.
They came in all rosy cheeked and happy. I love snow! Until about mid January and I'm ready for the sun and green grass again.

Take My Advice
Life with little kids is HARD. Just about every day.... is hard.
I think this outlook on my current situation has written itself all over my face because people keep telling me to enjoy it because they grow up and I will want it back. Ok, a few people tell me "don't worry, it gets better".
I think all of it is silly advice anyway. I don't think it gets better or worse, it just gets different. Even I know that. And I think that each of us has our favorite stages in life.
If you will recall, one of my new years goals was to "enjoy" a little more of my every day life. And I really do believe that I do. I take the time to just enjoy my children's smallness, their dependence, their innocence, etc. But after 4 pm I'm tired and all the questions, the whining and the inability to get oneself from one point to another starts to wear me out. By 7 pm I'm done!
Still.... I tend to take a don't look forward, don't look back approach to it all. OK, so that's oversimplifying it a little. Of course I look forward to not having to sit on the closed toilet for an hour every time my children need a bath, or the time when my baby holding muscles will be weak and underutilized. And of course I look at my kids' baby pictures and absolutely melt into a puddle. But I'm determined to be happy with where I am.
So to all that lovely advice that people dish out so freely. PPppptttthhhhttt!!!!
I try not to complain but sometimes I just have to. I try to enjoy my kids in all their silliness but sometimes I just have to lock myself in my room. I try to make yummy meals, but more often than I would like to admit, all we get is frozen pizza. So... on with life.... and I'm happy with it. Even if my face screams, "I NEED A NAP!" (because I do).
And if anyone happens upon my DVD player remote.... please let me know where it is!
**Update 12/16** Found the remote!!! It was in the recliner that I checked every nook and cranny about four times, not to mention every inch of our house including drawers, the Christmas tree and garbage cans. Finally I decided that the recliner was where it just plain had to be so I turned it upside down and plop! There's the remote, as well as a lovely pack of smarties. Where this was hiding is beyond me. I seriously meticulously checked everywhere my fingers would reach.

These are a few of my favorite things
So, I just plucked Ezra from his bed. And oh.... like heaven I pressed my cheek to his. The proceeded to shower him with kisses. He resists, but deep down inside I know he loves it...or not. Honestly, I don't care.
I LOVE warm, soft, rosy baby cheeks straight from the warmth of their beds. That prompted me to do this favorite things post. Some are wonderful like baby cheeks others are freshly plucked from your local store. Regardless, all are favorites of mine.
1. Along with the baby cheeks. I LOVE their chubby fingers, hands, elbows and knees. Ezra and Marisa had wonderful little dimpled elbows and rubber band wrists. Roman.. He was super fat, but I don't remember those features on him so much. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention.
(disclaimer... this is not my baby, just a cute picture I found on the Internet)
2. I love sweatshirts, jackets and sweaters. A good hooded sweatshirt is my absolute favorite. Too bad it makes me look a little lazy and under dressed. Lots of the time I have a nice slim fitting T, or blouse on underneath. I think the main reason I like them so much is because I'm chronically cold. But they are so darn comfortable and warm that I don't care if I look lazy.

3. Frozen Yogurt. Yum! I am a huge fan of ice cream but it seems to make feel blah. Frozen yogurt does no such thing and I can just keep eating and eating and.... well you get the point. Oh I love frozen yogurt. I wish they sold more varieties in the store and that it was cheaper. For this love of frozen yogurt, I will never be completely free from Hogi Yogi. I've got a whole list of reasons I would love to never go there again. Yet, no one else offers such delight so close to home.

4. Websites that allow reviews of products. I am always going on to Amazon before buying something and seeing what other people think of it. Another website with reviews that I just love is allrecipes.com. Not only do you get to choose from so many recipes for free, but you get to see other people's experiences with the recipe, as well as any changes they made.
5. That Marisa says "I love you" so much. And then gives a great big hug and kiss. I love you too sweetheart!

6. Nice Fabric. As of the last two years or so I have become a total fabric snob. This is not a good thing. Because fabric snobs don't settle for the fabric you can get at JoAnns with your 40% off coupon for $2-3/yd. NO! We like the good stuff. The stuff that costs $10-$15/yd at the quilting shops. Oh, I don't know how I went most of my sewing life without knowing about these fabrics (other than I probably saw the price tag and ran). I LOVE Michael Miller fabrics, Free Spirit fabrics, Amy Butler fabrics, Alexander Henry fabrics and Moda. Oh my!!!!! I've got a real problem. LOL

7. Billy Blanks! You are my friend. Even though this is SO 1996. I love my 25 minute work out with that buff, sweaty and slightly odd man. I'm counting on him to get me through the holidays. Even better, I paid 50 cents for the VHS at D.I.

8. I love my kids lovies. They keep them company when they are alone, scared, bored or in bed because I can't/won't. Rhino has been across the country many a times and been through a lot and it shows. Marisa rubs and twirls her dolly's soft dress until it's black. Ezra wrestles and gives slimy wet kisses to his monkey. I LOVE them for being such a big part of their little lives.

9. Hand pieced quilts. I'm gathering fabrics to make a few of my own. I've never really made a whole quilt before but they are just so pretty, so rustic, so timeless. So NOT Walmart. Someday I just want to have a whole stack of hand pieced quilts in my house. Now as far as hand quilted..... I've done it before and I hope to never do it again. I will pay someone with one of those big fancy machines to quilt it for me thank you.

10. My husbands goat (as long as it's well trimmed). Or, as Roman would say, his "shade". I've seen him without (thanks to those lovely BYU days) and I will never ask him to go without again. We think it scares a lot of people round these parts. What is it about facial hair? Well.... I don't care. I like it.

There is more... there is so much more, but the kids are taking a nap now (again yea!) and I've got a whole list of things I need to do while they snooze.
This says a little something about how I blog. I start a post at 11:00 am and it sits on my computer screen all day. I add a little here and a little there in between preparing meals, breaking up a fight over a wooden spoon, taking a shower and all the other crazy things that go on around here. And I finally finish it and press publish at my bedtime.

Christmas is coming the goose is getting fat
So, I don't have a whole lot to talk about really. We've been busy finishing up our Christmas shopping. Unfortunately, there won't be many toys at our house this year. We have so many, and our kids don't really play with toys. They play "let's get all the toys out" but they don't play with them. So.... we're going to keep the toys to a minimum this year. I still think they will have a good time.... I hope.
I've been working on my etsy shop a lot lately too. And it's paying off. I've sold 12 items since mid November (which is pretty good for me). The best part is that everything I sold, I basically made from leftover fabrics. So I was emptying out my cupboards and making money. YEAH!
The biggest problem is that for some reason you have to add new things to your shop every day or your sales go down. I think it has a little to do with the way the etsy search engine works. I'm running out of items, and the time to make more. I've gotta get the kids Christmas sewn up so the excitement is going to die down. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Maybe we will give it another go in January. It is kind of fun though. Much better than Ebay ever was. Have you ever been to etsy? check it out.

Do you remember the time? VIII
I know, It's not a Monday but it is THANKSGIVING! and that is what my flashback is about.
Every year as I was growing up we had Thanksgiving dinner with my cousins (my dad's brother's family). We did a lot with this particular set of cousins because they were about the same age as all of us and they were the closest set of cousins. I always looked forward to Thanksgiving with them.
We played games, ate our guts out, made turkeys out of candy, and played touch football (I was the youngest of the bunch and was too small to play most of the time. By the time I was big enough, everyone had lost interest. Being the youngest stinks!)
My most vivid memories were my grandma's stuffing. YUM! Olives on each of my fingers, figuring out how I was going to get out of eating the yams my aunt would force on my plate (BARF!!), and dreading going around the table and saying what we were thankful for like you would dread getting kicked in the head. I sure hated that. I know I've mentioned it before, but it's a shy person's nightmare to bare their soul while everyone stares like that.
The tradition has died as both my aunt and uncle have passed away, all the kids on both sides have grown up and moved away. I miss it. What I wouldn't give for a game of touch football (I might think differently after about 10 minutes) and my grandma's stuffing.
BUT.... I'm glad that we can have a deliciously yummy dinner at my house, with my little family, with a huge stack of movies from Reams and pumpkin pie all for me. And that I can skim through the black Friday adds and toy with the idea of joining the madness. That I'm warm, that my family is here and safe and happy.
On another note:
I'm so sad about this.
I've been in those caves. Twice. I've been stuck where he was stuck. I was only stuck for maybe 45 minutes but it scared me so bad that I remember thinking in my 17 year old mind that I never wanted my children to go in there. And contemplating how I was going to keep my teenage kids from going. I was 17. I'm no super dare devil, but I'm not a chicken either. I panicked and cried like a baby in front of my high school crush. My brother loved it there, and teased me for not liking it.
My heart aches for his wife, his brothers, his family and everyone who tried so hard to rescue him. So sad!

I dont wanna grow up
Marisa is 2.5 now. And, she does not want to grow up. I think it's going to have to be a forced issue.
She loves her crib. We're just going to have to take it down and give her no other choice but to sleep on the floor or her bed. I'm afraid she might choose the floor.
I think that we might have to stop buying diapers and give her no other option but to use the potty or the floor. I'm sure she will use the floor. UGGGG!!!
I know, I know, she won't wear diapers and won't sleep in the crib forever, but it sure seems like it. I'm definitely more interested in the potty training. I've had way too many diaper changes in the last year.
Anyway, on to the more positive things.
This girl loves to sing and adores books. She will read/sing books for hours.
When asked what she wants for Christmas, she says she wants "pink". So I guess it's up to us. It just had better be pink.
She LOVES nursery, which is wonderful. I'm hoping it makes leaving Ezra there in 5 months that much easier.
She cries a lot still. I don't expect it to ever end. I'm preparing myself for that.
Her personality reminds me of myself. Shy, yet wants to have a good time. So, things like getting her pictures taken go a little something like this:
She is excited. She practices her smiles, she giggles and cheers when we get there. Then, she won't smile, move, talk or do anything but pout the whole time. After leaving in frustration, she's happy and talks excitedly about how she had her picture taken but wasn't happy for her pictures.
For reference, I cried for my kindergarten pictures. I don't expect her to grow out of it until about mid high school. :)

Rambling On My Mind
We don't have a whole lot going on, maybe that is why there isn't much to write about. Or maybe it's just more of the same, or maybe, just maybe I'm tired. I try to go to bed early but I usually end up lying there waiting for sleep to come only to stay awake way past when I normally fall asleep.
My kids had are finally recovering from the time change (yes, that was like, three weeks ago) However, Marisa, who used to sleep until 8 now wakes up at 6:30 or earlier. It doesn't matter that much since Ezra wakes up about then anyway, but I have a sneaky suspicion that she's a little more grouchy than usual because of it.
Roman has said a hand full of strange things lately.
One was on the way to work with daddy on Saturday:
"daddy, if you get your nose stuck in a vacuum you just gotta go on with your day, right dad?"
Marisa has been practicing her "talking nonstop" skills lately.
She will ramble on and on just mixing together all the words she knows. Sometimes the end composition is pretty funny. However I can't remember any specific things. I will try to pay better attention, but honestly, it's that type of talking that I try to block out..... for sanity purposes and all.
That's all I've got. Random, I know. My next post will be awesome..... or not. You never know. :)
I've been thinking about doing a poll, or a post about Sesame Street.

Then I Could Wish You a Merry Christh-mith
I remember very clearly singing that song in First grade, since most of us didn't have all our teeth. I thought it was so funny!
Well, Roman's tooth has been loose FOREVER. I was starting to think that his gums had decided to re-attach themselves to it and he would be stuck with it for the rest of his life.
Every day for months he would come running to me to have me wiggle it for him.
Yesterday, while playing in the play place at Carls Jr and eating a chicken star (FYI, I strongly discourage him to eat while in that thing, it makes me shiver and gag a little just thinking about it, but somehow he slipped past me. Let's not even bring up the fact that I had to go in there to fetch Marisa this time... oh wait.)
Back to the point. Roman yells down.... "MOM!!! My tooth came out!!!! I was eating my chicken and my tooth fell out!" It was this point that I scrambled and yelled for him to bring it down for me (talk about bio hazard, and I had not yet ventured into the cave of germs and didn't want to to go search for a tooth) He was busy showing it off to some random kid.

You would have thought that Santa just came to Carls Jr. and brought him a trampoline covered with every wii game on the planet. He was SOOOO excited!!! Jumping around and being silly, and grinning and telling us the incredible story of his tooth... again and again.

Oh, silly boy. He insists that the Tooth fairy only brings one quarter for each tooth.

That darn tooth fairy just can't get it right because she brought four.
I remember loosing my first tooth. I was five. I was excited to go show my teacher.
The first thing Roman said is "I can't wait to tell my teacher!" Guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Summer Nights
This post is for me....so please don't feel obligated to read it. But you are more than welcome. It's just a little long.
I wanted to share the story of "the dress" since I really haven't said it all (I know, can you believe there is more?)
When talking about our upcoming Christmas letter (grrrrr) Shane asked me what the highlight of my year was. Honestly, it probably was making the neighbor's wedding dress. So either I didn't have a lot going on, or I really enjoyed making that dress. I think it was a combination of both. So... here it goes, the story of my summer nights 2009.
Richelle (the bride) got engaged in June, maybe May. The first thing I thought was... I hope they don't ask me to make the dress. :) It was really just a passing thought, I didn't really think they would ask me. I've done a little bit of sewing for Lauri (the mother) and we talk often (usually turning a quick trip over to the neighbors to borrow an egg into a half hour gab session) But I've never really had more than a quick conversation with her daughter. If I were her, asking me, would be the LAST option.
Come early July, Lauri calls me and tells me this story about how they've been dress shopping and have tried a lot of things on but nothing spoke to them until they went to a dress shop up in SLC. This is a pretty posh place. They have many designer gowns, they don't let you take any pictures, they custom make/alter your dress so it's perfect etc. etc. It was at this very nice place that they found the perfect dress. Then they found the price tag. WOWZA! The dress cost more than both of our little cars cost us. But, it spoke to her.... what to do? Run like the wind! And they did, but didn't quite know what to do about this dress that she fell in love with.
They contacted a woman who copies dresses for a living who is up in Orem maybe (I think she may have even been in the news before) and she quoted them a better price but still much more than they wanted to pay. Then... she did it. She asked me if I could sew the dress... OK well, not exactly. She wanted my opinion on how much it should cost to sew etc. and she kind of asked if I thought I could do it. I said, I will look at the pictures but would make no promises. In fact I warned her that I don't even like homemade wedding dresses much and didn't even sew my own wedding dress for that very reason. I sew fluffy skirts all day for crying out loud! And I sew for big bellied, flat chested, no hips children. But I told her I would at least look and share my opinion.
Richelle and Lauri came over with a laptop full of pictures of this dress. Here are the pictures they shared. WOW! I looked over all the pictures and thought about it a bit and said I would need to talk to my mom (who would have to be my savior if I had any problems), and I would need to research fabric prices and really think about it but that it looked do-able. DID I REALLY JUST SAY THAT!?!?!?! I didn't even trust myself to make my own dress once upon a time.
I milled over it a little bit more, researched fabric, looked at the pictures about a MILLION times and consulted with Shane. He said "don't do it! You're going to ruin that dress and then they are going to hate you" (I think those were his exact words) Talk about supportive. Actually it was a good thing, because I needed to know that I REALLY thought I could do it. After all, all the cheering on and sweet talking in the world that he could do wouldn't help me if I screwed it up.
I didn't give any firm answer to Lauri for a while. Actually, I'm not sure I ever gave her a firm answer. However, I showed her the fabric I had found, and some patterns I thought would work. I even bought a vintage pattern from 1980 (yes, the year I was born) because the current selection just wasn't quite right. Then, they threw caution to the wind and bought the lace, brought it to my house and we got started. Just like that. And I felt good about it. It really surprised me.
I made a mock top so I could practice on $2/yd fabric instead of $60/yd lace and she came over for many fittings throughout the 6 weeks of sewing. It was fun! I really enjoyed watching her envision the dress. I was amazed at her trust, as I had never done anything like this. And I felt like a part of something special. It was cool.
The dress is actually two dresses. One underneath made of a polyester satin. I sewed this first to get an idea of how the pattern would act. And to get warmed up on the less expensive fabric. It went together swiftly and easily. Whew!
Then, I had to do it. I had to cut lace for the overdress that was far more expensive than any fabric I had ever cut. I sometimes panic about cutting fabric that is $10/yd. That's expensive stuff! But when it came time, I spread it out on my living room floor, admired it and cut it into 12 lovely pieces without a single tear or even a mistake. (OK, one mistake, I should have marked the pieces, because after they were cut, I spent forever trying to identify them again)
This wasn't just cutting, you have to cut lace along the design in the lace, then you have to make sure the design in the lace on the piece that its going to attach to will line up design wise too. It was stressful, but I was blessed with a clear brain (a rare thing as of late) and confidence.
Sewing lace is easy though. It is SLOW. I would sew for about 2-3 hours a night and I would barely get one seam done. I had no idea it was going to be like that. I kept telling myself (and probably other people) that I thought it would be done in a week.... for about four weeks. LOL
Luckily, I had plenty of time.
Once it was starting to look like a dress and not a heap of lace on my sewing table I started to get SO excited. Richelle came over with friends to show off, she giggled and swooned and I felt happy.
Then before I knew it.... it was done! I was so excited to have it done. I wasn't sick of it but it had been a lot of time, probably over 70 hours. And all of the sudden, I didn't want it to go away! It had been 6 weeks of admiring my work, loving it and enjoying it and I was so proud, then it was going to be gone. And then it WAS gone. :( The check, while nice, wasn't nearly as fun to look at, show off, giggle about.
I still look back and can't believe I sewed a wedding dress, and that she liked it, and that it went so smoothly. From the beginning to the end, I hit very few snags, I had to re-do very few things. It fit her so well, and turned out a lot like the dress I was copying. In fact, the only real differences were 1. The lace (the lace on the designer dress would have cost $200/yd Mama Mia! ) 2. Richelle's dress was a tad more modest (the one we copied was pushin' it a little) 3. She wanted a longer train.
I half expected several panic attacks, lots of tears, many nights spent fixing mistakes, panicked calls to my mother and perhaps even buying a whole bunch more fabric and throwing away my first attempt. But through it all, I had a overwhelming feeling of peace about it all. I know, it sounds strange to be so "spiritual" about a dress, but I really think it was what I needed right then. Three kids had been exhausting from the moment Ezra was born and I was feeling just emotionally and physically drained! The dress was a great get away/have fun/feel good about ME thing in my life. I'm SO glad I agreed to do it. And while it did take up many of my nights (thanks Shane for not complaining about it), It didn't take any time away from my kids during the day.
As for doing another one.... maybe someday, but I'm not going into business just yet.

All I want for Christmas
undone!
Sorry, the last post was deleted.
Lesson learned. I can't handle a good debate, so I will not be asking your opinion on hot topics again.... at least for a little while ;)
My next post will be about food, cats, or puppies, or children... Something more fun and undeniably agreeable. Stay tuned!

Trick or treat smell my feet
Halloween 2009
What fun we had.
We've been preparing and waiting for Halloween for a while now. Somehow I managed to have everything sewn long before Halloween because of a party that was planned at our church. Then they went and canceled it. We were pretty bummed.
Trick or treating and Halloween have to be one of Roman's top five favorite things in life. Marisa, was not so sure. We kept telling her about it and asking her if she wanted to dress up and get some candy and she diligently said "no thank you".
I thought she was nuts. The girl loves candy.
The first breakthrough was her dress. When I finished it she instantly fell in love with it's flowing pink silkiness.... and what little girl wouldn't?
Then we found a princess candy bucket at Walmart for $1.
Then, the real breakthrough. I told her I would go with her. That settled it. She was game! And, no one enjoyed it more than her. I wonder why she though I wouldn't go with her?
So, this year, since my kids are young and don't have a chance fighting against me, we went with the whole theme thing-Nintendo characters. Roman of course wanted to be Mario. Who better to play the part of his brother Luigi than Roman's brother Ezra? Marisa wanted to be Luigi at first, but I convinced/forced her to be Princess Peach. She was OK with it once I had a dress to wave in front of her.

The neighbor boys were also Mario and Luigi. Too bad Ezra was asleep when they came over.

Poor Ezra, the mittens were quite debilitating. He couldn't take off the hat or crawl for that matter. But isn't he cute? He was a real trooper and didn't complain until the very end when it was really getting dark.

We had so much fun and got lots of loot.

I love my little goblins.

Leaves are falling all around
It is fall.

It snowed.
It almost always snows at least once before Halloween, but I was not ready for it. I was quite enjoying the lovely cool, but not cold weather.
Roman noticed the leaves along our driveway Saturday and begged to make a pile so he could jump in it. Marisa joined the fun. I used to LOVE playing in the fall leaves. In fact, I used to make a big nest of leaves, line it with blankets and play for hours.

We carved our pumpkins tonight. Well, I carved our pumpkins anyway. Roman probably could have done it, but I didn't really consider that until it was over. He did design his own jack-o-lantern face though. It's just coincidence that Roman happens to be wearing the same shirt both days (although not really, he loves this shirt).

I'm amazed by how well the horse turned out. Gotta love what you can find on the Internet.

Thanks to the neighbors for bringing the leftover pumpkins from their patch. Two of our store bought pumpkins had such tough skins I would have died trying to carve them.
