Nine

I can't believe Marisa is nine years old! How does time go SO fast!?

For her birthday cake, Shane found a fun recipe for an ice cream cake and Marisa said it sounded good so that's what she had. It was easy, and cheap and yummy.

She loved being able to help make it too.

It's just ice cream bars on the bottom, a layer of cookies n cream ice cream, then Oreo's (we crushed ours up), another layer of ice cream and then we topped it with magic shell chocolate.

For breakfast she picked doughnuts at Reams. Dinner was Jasmine Thai Lao.

Marisa got everything on her birthday list; bubbles, gummy lifesavers, pearler beads, a watch, pj's, gum, money and a beanie baby.

Happy Birthday Marisa!

Swim

I made Roman do a mini swim clinic this spring. He was not happy about it. I think he would be a great competitive swimmer if he liked it enough to try.

In the end, he still didn't love it. But at least I can say that I tried.

Spring Break 2016: Las Vegas

For Spring Break this year we decided to spend a couple days in Las Vegas.

I'm not really a fan of Las Vegas exactly, but I am a fan of warm and if it was going to be warm anywhere within a 6 hour drive of us, Las Vegas was the place.

I know of a few people who have stayed at a resort called Tahiti Village and enjoyed it, so we booked a room and prayed for sunshine.

We got it! It was at least 85 degrees every day and just so pleasant.

The great thing about Tahiti Village, besides the non-Las Vegas atmosphere, was their pool. It was giant, with a beach and a lazy river. The kids swam 4 separate times in the 3 nights that we were there.

Roman spent most of his time playing volleyball with whoever was playing.

Ezra jumped into the pool no less than 200 times.

The lazy river was nice.

We went to the strip twice to take in as much as we could without spending a fortune

The Venetian

The Classic Car Show at LINQ

Flamingo's at The Flamingo

Ezra isn't in this picture because he was too busy pouting that he didn't get his own $10 frozen hot chocolate.

Frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity

Caesar's Palace

The Fall of Atlantis in the back of the mall at Caesars Palace is......totally not worth the mile long walk to get to it. But hey, it's free... and there is fire, and Cheesecake Factory to ease the disappointment.

Paris

Hershey's World had several candy Statue of Liberty's. Licorice, jelly beans and chocolate. Yum!

New York, New York

Excalibur

MGM Grand

This was the view from our room's balcony.  It was better at night with all the lights. Just beyond that dirt patch is the airport. I sat and watched plans take off and land, it's actually pretty relaxing. Don't get me wrong... the ocean would have been better, but airplanes are cool too.

It was warm, so we ate our meals out on the balcony.

The kids enjoyed the cable T.V.

For my birthday, we swam... twice. We headed back to the strip for Cheesecake Factory (sorry, no pictures. Something about food makes me forget to do anything but shovel food in my face).... I insisted that we make sure to see the fountains at Bellagio, then we headed over to Planet Hollywood for a show.

I want a fountain like this in my front yard. I don't know why I can't have it.

We saw Nathan Burton, comedy magic show. He's a guy from America's Got Talent. It was great and the kids loved it.

The next day, we packed our bags and loaded the car. Before heading home, we took a small detour over to Hoover Dam.

We decided to take the power plant tour down into the relief tunnels and the power plant.

The Hoover Dam really is AMAZING!

We also walked halfway across the Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, which is quite amazing as well.

Then it was back home.

It really was a very relaxing vacation! Which is saying a lot coming from a MOM. It wasn't too long, just about an hour too far away, but what are you going to do? And I felt like anything we did or didn't do was good with me (except for the Bellagio fountains... I had to see them).  I loved Tahiti Village and thought it was a great place to take the family. It was so nice to have a kitchen in our room and a shuttle to take us to the strip. I would definitely go back.

The hero of the trip was definitely Shane for doing all the driving. Thanks pal! It was a great way to spend spring break and my birthday.
